The CBSE board exam pattern will be changed in 2024

The Central Board of Secondary Education, or CBSE, will make significant changes to the question papers beginning this academic year. This new pattern will appear in the question papers for the 2024 class 10th and 12th board exams.

MCQs will be given more weight than long answers. The CBSE Board is taking this step in accordance with National Education Policy.

In this new pattern of question paper, the marks allotted for short and long answers will be reduced. MCQ (multiple choice questions) marks, on the other hand, will be increased. However, beginning with the academic year 2020–21, the emphasis on MCQs has begun in the question papers. It will, however, be slightly higher in 2024. Students must study the subject more thoroughly in order to answer an MCQ correctly.

According to PTI, the examination pattern will be reformed in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework beginning with the 2024 board examination. The report also goes into great detail about the question pattern.

In class ten, the proportion of case-based MCQ questions will increase from 40% to 50%. On the question paper, objective questions will be worth 20% of the total marks. The questions in the objective section will be the same as those in the MCQs. Long answers received 40% of the marks last academic year. It has been reduced by 10% this year. According to the new pattern, long-answer questions will account for 30% of all questions.

In Class XII, the proportion of case-based MCQ questions will increase from 30% to 40%. The 12th grade, like the 10th, will have the same questions as MCQs in the objective section, with the allotted marks being 20%. Long answer questions, on the other hand, will account for 40% of the total. Long answers in class XII received 50% of the marks in the previous academic year.

Concerning the change in question pattern, CBSE Director Joseph Emmanuel stated that the National Education Policy emphasises the development of creative and critical thinking skills in children. As a result, students must conduct more in-depth research on the subject. Practical studies should be prioritised. The CBSE is changing the pattern of the question paper to better prepare students for today’s challenges.
